Are you interested in a career in ophthalmology?

If you are motivated to work in health care and have a passion for science and medical advancement, the TOTC may be a great fit for you.

Ophthalmic technicians and technologists evaluate and examine patients visiting the eye doctor's office. Their responsibilities include conducting a range of diagnostic tests necessary for the physician to diagnose and address the patient's eye condition effectively. We offer a rigorous 10-month Ophthalmic Technician Program, and graduates can opt to further expand their skills by completing the advanced, 10-month Ophthalmic Medical Technologist Program. Our students finish our programs equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to seamlessly enter the eye care workforce!

Located at the not-for-profit Kensington Eye Institute in the heart of downtown Toronto, Canada.

Our programs offer a unique opportunity to sharpen your ophthalmic skills through independent, hands-on experience and learning. Interactive online lectures are provided by technologists and physicians weekly, and students also spend time at our clinic, receiving immersive, hands-on training in the clinical and diagnostic units, including supervised patient interactions. TOTC students will also have the opportunity to participate in the University of Toronto’s Department of Ophthalmology grand rounds and attend exciting industry conferences.

The TOTC holds membership in the International Council of Accreditation and is endorsed by the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO). Upon completion of our program, graduates are eligible to apply for the IJCAHPO’s OT and OMT certification exams. Certification enables graduates to pursue career opportunities internationally.
