New Hospice Medical Director

We are honoured to announce that Dr. Naheed Dosani (pictured) has been appointed to serve as the Medical Director of the Kensington Hospice, effective December 1, 2022.

Dr. Dosani is a palliative care physician and health justice advocate who truly exemplifies the definition of humanity. He has dedicated his career to ensuring that individuals experiencing structural vulnerabilities, such as homelessness and poverty, have equitable access to healthcare. One of his many major accomplishments is being the founder of the Palliative Education and Care for the Homeless (PEACH) Program at Inner City Health Associates (ICHA), the world’s first mobile palliative care program for people experiencing homelessness. Dr. Dosani truly understands the systemic issues which plague our communities. He uses his voice as an instrument to identify these issues and develop sustainable and innovative approaches to make transformative and sustainable change at both the patient and system levels.

Dr. Dosani wears multiple hats and currently serves as a palliative care physician within the Department of Family & Community Medicine at St. Michael's Hospital at Unity Health Toronto and as the Health Equity Expert Advisor at the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Division of Palliative Care, within the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Over the past year, Dr. Dosani has worked as the Clinical Health Equity Program Lead at Kensington Health and has made major accomplishments at the Hospice through this program. Dr. Dosani has been instrumental in developing and supporting equitable processes and practices to better support our residents, caregivers, volunteers, and staff. He will be continuing on in this role at Kensington, along with the Medical Directorship. Dr. Dosani has also helped to develop the Health Navigator Role through the Second Mile Club and is currently helping to support the development of a Peer Worker role as well. Through the Clinical Health Equity Program, exciting developments are underway that will truly make transformative change for structurally vulnerable populations.

Dr. Dosani has received many prestigious honours for his trailblazing work. These awards include the Meritorious Service Cross for Humanitarianism from Canada's Governor General in 2018, a humanitarian award from the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians in May 2019, and the Early Career Leader award from the Canadian Medical Association in 2020. Most recently, Dr. Dosani received an Honorary Degree (Doctor of Laws) from Ontario Tech University in 2022.

As we near the completion of our Hospice expansion, having Dr. Dosani in this role will help support our future vision for hospice palliative care in Ontario. What makes Dr. Dosani unique is his unwavering passion, dedication, and commitment to health justice and the communities he serves. We are grateful and thrilled that Dr. Dosani has taken on the role of Kensington Hospice Medical Director.

Please join us in welcoming him!

Thank you,
