The 10-bed Kensington Hospice, located on a beautiful tree-lined street in downtown Toronto, is a palliative care home focused on easing the physical, psychosocial and psychological pain of end of life. Our team not only cares for the residents of the hospice, but also their family members and friends during the final stage of their loved one’s illness and are there to support families grieve after death.  

Kensington Hospice allows families to focus on what is important. The experience at Kensington enables a sense of togetherness by creating the space to share and make memories. Often, it brings moments of happiness that may not have been possible at home or in a hospital. 

To meet the growing needs of the community we serve, Kensington Health is expanding our hospice and making room for more moments that matter. The expansion will add nine hospice beds and a new space for our Community Day Hospice program. 

Planning for the new area was done in partnership with families, volunteers and staff in order to carefully reflect and consider our residents’ and their families’ needs. Construction currently is underway to create a number of beautiful spaces, including:

• nine private bedrooms with pull-out sleepers for loved ones 

• a top-of-the-line open concept kitchen and eat-in dining facilities  

• a private family room for intimate moments and smaller gatherings 

• a library for connecting and plugging in 

• private spa rooms for hospice therapy 

• space for social work, family counselling, occupational therapy, advance care planning, examination, infusions and physical therapy  

• a grand community living room for fostering conversations and sharing 

When completed in 2021, the 19-bed Kensington Hospice will have nearly doubled our capacity to provide compassionate end-of-life care. We believe in quality of life at the end-of-life. And we think that everyone deserves the opportunity to have a good ending.
