After an intensive six months of planning, consultations and construction, we are thrilled to announce the opening of a sixth operating room (OR 6) at Kensington Eye Institute (KEI). This milestone is a testament to the incredible progress possible when we work toward a common goal. 

KEI is a not-for-profit eye surgery centre that offers cataract, glaucoma and retina surgery, as well as corneal transplants. The OR 6 project, which commenced in in December 2022, demonstrates our commitment to providing excellent care and improving the lives of our patients. With approximately 15,000 eye surgeries performed annually, our mission is to improve the quality of life for those suffering from eye conditions that affect our patients’ quality of life.  

The pandemic's impact on our healthcare system has resulted in a backlog of essential surgeries. By expanding and efficiently managing eye surgeries, we are doing our part to alleviate some of the pressures on the healthcare system. This investment will increase our capacity by 3000 procedures, enabling us to address the surgical backlog, expedite sight-restoring procedures, and facilitate the training of more ophthalmologists through our partnerships with the University of Toronto. 

At the core of this achievement lies the support of our community and the dedication of our talented front-line healthcare professionals. Together, we have demonstrated the power of collaboration and how it can lead to tangible results. 

As we enter this new phase, we are more committed than ever to providing exceptional care. The opening of OR 6 is not just an addition to our facility - it symbolizes the strength of our community and our shared commitment to advancing healthcare services. With this expanded capacity, we look forward to continuing our journey toward a brighter future for eye care.
