Happy Asian Heritage Month!  

Every May, we proudly celebrate Asian Heritage Month. It’s a chance to recognize people of Western Asian, Central Asian, Southern Asian, Eastern Asian, Southeastern Asian and to Northern Asian heritage!

Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity for us to learn more about the many achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian heritage who, throughout our history, have done so much to make Canada the country we know and love.

We celebrate Canadians of Asian Heritage by raising awareness about Asian-Canadian history and experiences while sharing the unique cultures and perspectives.

We have lots in store this month, from a weekly trivia contest with a chance to win prizes to sharing highlights from events across the Kensington campus. Scroll down to see how you can participate in all the fun!

Another focus at Kensington is education. We encourage team members – to use these learning tools as an opportunity to gain a new perspective and to learn together.

• Breaking barriers to inclusion: Asian Heritage Month – Canadian Centre of Diversity and Inclusion 
  Join this webinar on May 7, 2024 from the Canadian Centre of Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI), where they’ll speak about barriers to inclusion and exploring ways to break them for a better workplace environment.  
• Asian Heritage in Canada – Toronto Metropolitan University
  Learn about Asian-Canadian history and the achievements and impact they’ve made on Canadian society. 
• Responding to Hate Toolkit – Toronto Metropolitan University
  A toolkit providing resources and guidance on how to respond to hate incidents, understanding hate crimes and promoting inclusivity in Toronto.
• Significant events in the history of Asian communities in Canada – Government of Canada 
  Includes different events, history and experiences of Asian communities (including East-Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, West Asian and Central Asian). 

Staff will also have the chance to win gift cards from a variety of Asian owned local businesses. More details are below on how to participate for a chance to win!

Kensington’s Weekly Asian Heritage Month Trivia Contest  

Are you confident in your trivia skills? Test out your skills by participating in Kensington’s Asian Heritage Month Trivia Contest! Each week, we will ask one question relating to Asian-Canadian history and culture. Stay tuned to the weekly All-Staff Update e-mails to participate.  

For all those who submit the correct answer, we will do a draw to select the winner.
