After 6 years of distinguished service, John Yip will be stepping down as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Kensington Health effective April 1, 2022.

The chicks of Kensington

In an effort to alleviate isolation and loneliness for those living at The Gardens, the Life Enhancement team hatched a clever idea: a new program called the Kensington Coop, a six-week program in which residents, along with staff, work together to hatch, play with, and grow baby chicks.

A holiday match: honouring a kind and loving mother and grandmother

In appreciation for the excellent care Joan experienced at Kensington Gardens, the Graham family have initiated a matching gift in her loving memory. Like Joan, they wish to inspire others to give to back this holiday, knowing that their donations will have double the impact.

The Healing Cycle for Hospice Palliative Care

Worried about your colonoscopy?

A patient at the Screening Clinic recently sat down with one of our Kensington volunteers, Keiran, to discuss their experience at the clinic while sharing their advice to those who may be worried about their procedure.

Thank you for hiking

Because of our 2021 Kensington Hike participants, donors, sponsors, staff and volunteers, we raised over $100,000 for the 11th Annual Kensington Hike!

Protecting the community that we serve

This past February, the Mid-West Ontario Health Team (MWT-OHT) organized a COVID-19 community vaccine clinic at the West End YMCA for vulnerable and at-risk populations in downtown Toronto’s west-end.

Supporting our future PSW’s

Throughout this pandemic, The Gardens has been dedicated to hiring, training and offering students the unique chance to have a placement at The Gardens.

Important announcement from John Yip, President and CEO of Kensington Health

We are very pleased to announce that Terry Caputo has accepted the position of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and will join Kensington Health effective August 30, 2021.

Thank you for celebrating Kensington Health Heroes

Kensington Health Heroes was a live, virtual fundraising gala on June 23 hosted by comedian Carolyn Taylor (Baroness von Sketch Show, and The Great Canadian Baking Show). It was an incredible and inspiring evening, where we honoured frontline staff along with the people and community who supported them.

The power of music

By using a variety of music therapy techniques, Sarah can easily connect and build a strong lasting relationship with the people she works with.

We stand with our London family

Like all of you, our hearts ached when we heard the news of the four family members killed in London, Ontario while enjoying a walk on Sunday June 6. Then, when we learned that this was an act of mass murder driven by Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate, our hearts sunk even further to a painfully familiar place.

We honour the 215 Indigenous children who died at the Kamloops Residential School

Over the weekend, Canadians received the harrowing news that the remains of 215 children – some as young as three years old – were found on the grounds of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Processing eye tissue doesn’t stop during a pandemic

Fifteen months into the COVID-19 pandemic, the eye tissue transplant work at Kensington’s Eye Bank of Canada (Ontario Division) hasn’t stopped. The team often pivoted throughout the pandemic to ensure tissue is available for sight-saving procedures.

Enjoying tea on Mother’s Day

While general visitors are still not allowed in the building due to Ministry guidelines, essential caregivers being able to visit will make this Mother’s Day extra special. Jeremy is one of many essential caregivers who is looking forward to spending the day with his mother, Sylvia, resident at The Gardens.

Meet the women making a difference at 340 College Street

They don’t call themselves superheroes, but they are. Christine Humphreys, Thuong Huynh, Mary Morgan, Jill Taylor, and Ann Whelan work together with their staff to save sight, catch cancer, and screen for disease – all essential services that people desperately need in the community. Despite ongoing challenges caused by COVID-19, they have continued to offer the safest care possible for their patients.

You are not alone

Throughout this pandemic, many have been experiencing feelings of fear, grief, trauma and exhaustion. As we journey down this new path with the help of vaccines families, residents, staff, caregivers, and volunteers need time to unpack and express all the emotions that they have been experiencing throughout this crisis.
