Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) are on duty at all times to assist residents with their personal and healthcare needs.
Care provided to each resident is documented daily, and standards of care are regularly monitored and evaluated by the Director of Resident Care and the interdisciplinary team.
Doctors visit the home regularly and are on call 24 hours a day. They review each resident’s records a minimum of every three months.
Kensington Gardens is supported by doctors connected to the University Health Network who participate in education and research projects to improve long-term care delivery.
Personal Care Attendants (PCA) provide gentle and respectful personal care, to ensure each resident’s comfort and safety with the activities of daily life. They work with the entire health care team to ensure the best physical, social and emotional well-being of each resident.
We help our residents to stay active with physiotherapy, walking programs, exercise classes and other movement programs. Our residents receive regular assessments and are evaluated for program suitability based on their personal needs.
We provide compassionate, high-quality care to people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Our Special Care Unit is equipped to respond to our residents’ needs, safely and respectfully.
We have a secure, outdoor courtyard that people can enjoy without the worry of wandering. Our restorative care program helps stimulate memory and a sense of well-being.
We have a team dedicated to supporting residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia who experience daily emotional response challenges or behaviours. The Behavioural Support Outreach (BSO) team was rolled out in select homes across the province, but Kensington Gardens has a unique model: the blending of nursing and social work. To learn more about Behavioural Support Outreach, visit the Meet the Team page.
We provide palliative and end-of-life care with a warm, compassionate, holistic approach. Palliative care includes pain management, symptom control and comfort for residents, plus support for family members. We work closely with residents to ensure wishes are a central element of the care they receive, and that the end-of-life journey is one of dignity, peace and autonomy.
We have a music therapist who works closely with residents. Music is a powerful tool that can connect people who may feel socially isolated. It can also ease depression and encourage self-expression.
We are fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers and students who give freely of their time to help enrich the lives of our residents. Our volunteer program is a value-added service that Kensington Gardens is proud to offer to our residents and families.
If you would like services from a volunteer, please complete a Volunteer Request Form, available at our Reception Desk and at each Nursing station. We make every effort to accomodate all volunteer requests. However, due to limitations and policies, we may not be able to fulfill all requests for services.
We use information, communication and virtual care technology as tools to facilitate connection between residents with their family members, friends and caregivers, or with care or service providers. Examples include using telephone and video conferencing technologies for consultations with physicians or care conference meetings. These technologies are also used to enable social connection between residents and the people important to them – especially those who live at a distance and cannot visit in-person regularly.
