Nurses – Transforming Health, One Moment at a Time

At Kensington Health, compassion isn’t just something we value – it’s something we see in action every day. Nowhere is that more evident than in the work of our nurses.

As we near the end of this year’s National Nursing Week (May 12 to 18, 2025)we honour the nurses across Kensington Health who bring empathy and excellence to their work. Whether it’s at the Gardens at Kensington Health, the Eye Institute at Kensington Health, or elsewhere on our campus, our nurses are at the heart of our commitment to person-centered care.

For Daniela Rusu, Registered Practical Nurse at the Gardens at Kensington Health for the past 18 years, the connection to residents is deeply personal.

“Being a nurse at the Gardens at Kensington Health has defined who I am. Taking care of residents gives me satisfaction every day. My goal is to keep them healthy and happy for as long as possible”

Sharon Medina, Registered Practical Nurse at the Gardens at Kensington Healthdescribes the joy she finds in everyday moments.

“I love being a nurse because I have a passion for caring for seniors. When I see my residents smiling, I feel a sense of accomplishment and it makes my heart full.”

For Amanda Mathura, Registered Nurse at the Eye Institute at Kensington Healththe impact of her work is often immediate – and unforgettable.

“Just seeing a patient’s reaction right after surgery and how happy they are to be able to see the clock, or read my name tag, is very rewarding. I know they will remember not only myself, but also the Eye Institute at Kensington Health, for our dedication and hard work.”

Kay Fonseca, Registered Practical Nurse in the Hospice and Palliative Care Program at Kensington Healthfinds purpose in being present for people during the moments that matter most.

“I love my job as a nurse because I find meaning in my life by taking care of people at their most vulnerable parts of their lives.”

And for Fe Gade, Registered Nurse at the Gardens at Kensington Healthnursing is all about making meaning.

“I love being a nurse because every day, I get to make a difference in someone’s life.”

These stories are just a glimpse into the dedication and care that nurses bring to Kensington Health. Their work reflects our deep commitment to person-centered care and to creating a place where residents, clients, patients, families, and staff feel seen, supported, and valued.

To all our nurses – thank you for everything you do. Your compassion not only shapes the care we deliver – but who we are as a community.
