The Kensington Eye Institute is a state-of-the-art academic health centre that provides ambulatory surgical and medical vision care and supports ophthalmic research and education.
We are licensed under the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care as an Independent Health Facility, and we are affiliated with the University of Toronto Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences.
Our mission is to exceed patient expectations by breaking new ground in health care delivery while delivering exemplary research and education. Ultimately, our vision is to transform health care in Ontario into a sustainable system while attaining excellence in patient care, research and education. The core values that drive our work each day are excellence, respect and teamwork.
Our ambulatory Surgery Centre provides cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, retina surgery and corneal surgery and operates as an Independent Health Facility (IHF).

In addition, we are proud to be among Canada’s largest ophthalmic teaching facilities, and as an Academic Centre of Excellence, our surgeons provide training for University of Toronto ophthalmology residents – the future eye surgeons of the country.
As a not-for-profit charitable organization, we depend on donations from private donors through the Kensington Foundation to help us fund health services and research.
